Clinical Psychology

– Good day to you!

I’m Dr. Roer, but feel free to call me Jason. We’re all friends here. I’m known for my easy-going, peaceful and collaborative approach to psychology, with a foundation of evidence-based, solution-focused modalities to get to the heart of the presenting problem effectively. In my opinion, the main goal of therapy is working toward the patient’s higher self and moving through past negative influences and experiences to broaden the scope of what a person acknowledges as acceptable for his or her life. This approach has been successful in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and PTSD.

We are what we grow beyond.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Positive Psychology

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques and Positive Psychology are the cornerstone of my practice. I believe these to be wonderful catalysts for change and growth. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems. Positive Psychology is a manner by which to positively impact the patient’s life by increasing the experience of positive emotions, building a sense of hope, helping to identify and develop strengths, and nurture healthy relationships.

The aim of Positive Psychology is to catalyze a change in psychology from a preoccupation only with repairing the worst things in life to also building the best qualities in life.

I bring varied life experience to treatment having participated in multiple industries including personal training, film (as a writer, director, producer), psychology and motivational coaching. Although I specialize in working with creative types – actors, directors, writers, artists and musicians, I have worked with all manner of individuals from my patients in a forensic capacity to the general population, from adolescents to the elderly.

Presently, I’m accepting new clients with whom to work. While I do not accept insurance currently, you can check with your insurance carrier regarding your coverage by calling the 800 number on the back of your insurance card. Some companies will accept out-of-network providers, and I will provide a receipt for you to submit to your insurance company to facilitate reimbursement. Moreover, I work on a sliding scale for those patients in need of financial assistance.
