Clinical Psychology

– Good day to you!

I’m Dr. Roer, but feel free to call me Jason. We’re all friends here. I’m known for my easy-going, peaceful and collaborative approach to psychology, with a foundation of analytical, existential, evidence-based, and humanistic modalities to get to the heart of the presenting problem effectively. In my opinion, the main goal of therapy is working toward the patient’s higher self and moving through past negative influences and experiences to broaden the scope of what a person acknowledges as acceptable for his/her/their life, and to find that which brings them the most joy and happiness. This approach has been successful in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, Axis II personality disorders, and for those searching for meaning and purpose in their life.

Analytical Psychology, Existential Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Positive Psychology

Analytical Psychology is designed to bring together the conscious and unconscious parts of the mind to help a person feel balanced and whole. Calling for patients to delve into deeper and sometimes darker elements of their mind and look at the “real” self rather than the self presented to others can help those suffering from depression, anxiety, grief, relationship and trauma issues, and low self esteem.

Existential Psychology focuses on developing meaning and purpose in life, free will, and self-determination. The existential modality is utilised to treat anxiety, depression, alienation, shame, guilt, anger, and purposelessness. Additionally, this approach focuses on enhancing relationships, love, commitment, creativity, will power, and acceptance.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems.

Positive Psychology is a manner by which to positively impact the patient’s life by increasing the experience of positive emotions, building a sense of hope, helping to identify and develop strengths, and nurture healthy relationships.

The aim of Positive Psychology is to catalyze a change in psychology from a preoccupation only with repairing the worst things in life to also building the best qualities in life.
